The MG MGS9 PHEV 7 seater SUV has been revealed to the public for the first time in the UK. The big question now is whether this new SUV could also make its way to India.

British carmaker MG has recently unveiled its first seven seater, three row SUV, the MGS9 PHEV, in the UK. With this launch, the brand has officially entered the large family SUV segment. The new plug in hybrid SUV is priced in the UK from £34,205 (around ₹42.22 lakh) and goes up to £36,945 (around ₹45.60 lakh). The company aims to offer an SUV that combines low running costs with a comfortable and practical interior designed for modern urban families.

David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG UK, said that the launch of the MGS9 PHEV could be a major step for the brand. According to him, the SUV represents MG’s entry into the 7 seat SUV segment and further strengthens the company’s position in the large SUV market.

Compared to the MG HS, this SUV is longer and taller, which gives it a more powerful and attention grabbing presence on the road. The third row seating also makes it suitable for bigger families, allowing more passengers to travel comfortably. If fewer passengers are travelling, the rear seats can be folded to create extra luggage space.

MG MGS9 PHEV: Engine

The MG MGS9 PHEV is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 24.7 kWh battery pack. This means the SUV is a plug in hybrid, using both a petrol engine and an electric motor.

The SUV can travel around 100 km in pure electric mode. According to the company, this electric range is suitable for daily city driving such as commuting to work or running short errands.

The front seats also come with heating, ventilation and massage functions, making long journeys more comfortable.

MG has also focused heavily on safety. The SUV has received a five star safety rating from Euro NCAP. It is equipped with 16 advanced driver assistance features and a high strength steel body structure, which helps improve protection during accidents.

The SUV is designed to be practical for everyday use. With all seats in place, it offers 332 liters of boot space.

If the third row seats are folded, the boot capacity increases to over 1000 liters, making it easier to carry large bags and luggage during family trips.

Compared to the MG HS, the MGS9 PHEV is longer and taller, which means more cabin space inside and a stronger road presence outside.

Because of this, the India launch of the MGS9 PHEV has not been confirmed yet. Its arrival in India will depend on market demand, customer preferences and the response to the MG Majestor.
